Subject: RSS
Speaker: Alan Baker

Wouldn't it be great to have a personalized newspaper? It wouldn't have all that stuff you don't care about. Instead it would be customized to just the things you are interested in. And it wouldn't be delivered just once a day--instead, the latest updates would arrive continuously. And it would tell you which articles you already read and which are new.

If you'd like a personalized newspaper, come learn about RSS.

Subject: iTunes and iPods (not iPhones and not iPads!)
Speaker: Bruce Pumplin, Willows Learning Center Instructor

The iTunes software is at the heart of Apple's digital music/video
universe. And, of course, iPods are Apple's portable, digital media
players that really started the revolution in music (and video)
delivery channels.

The presentation will include getting and configuring the iTunes
software, adding music to your own personal digital library,
transferring your library to other devices and media, and
sources of free (and legal!) music.

Subject: Protecting Yourself, Your Computer and, Your Identity

Seaker: Norbert “Bob” Gostischa

It’s common wisdom that avoiding suspicious web-based content and especially ‘dodgy’ websites will keep you safe on the Internet. Unfortunately, that sort of information is ‘old and outdated technology’. Internet security (protecting both your computer and your identity online) can, however, be demystified. This presentation focuses on normal computer users, rather than “IT geeks,” and clearly explains security myths, Internet dos and don’ts, the evolution of computer threats, and more. Join presenter Bob Gostischa, as he simplifies, clarifies, and demystifies your computer, making your Internet experience a safe one.

Subject: Tax Planning for Retirees

Speaker: Alan Baker

A little planning can help you avoid an unpleasant surprise on April 15th and maybe save you money. If you have some investments and some discretionary income, you can smooth your path with the following steps.
  1. Clarify: Define your financial goals (e.g. asset allocation, simplification, estate planning)
  2. Plan: Identify specific actions to implement those goals (e.g. IRA withdrawal, investments, gifts)
  3. Estimate: Understand the financial impacts of those actions and adjust the plan (e.g. asset allocation, gain/loss)
  4. Tweak: Understand the tax impacts and adjust the plan (e.g. pace of IRA withdrawal, capital gains rates)
Alan will provide a spreadsheet that guides you through each step. See the Spreadsheet at:
