Sam Neua & the Vieng Xai Caves

After Muang Ngoi we headed for Sam Neua. On the way we were stranded in the small village of Muang Khaiw with the next bus out at 1 A.M. When the bus did come it was at least 35 people overcrowded and we had to sit on rice sacks and other people for 4 hours of the 9 hour journey. Later our bus got stuck in the mud and we had to pile out. But we made it to Vieng Xai and saw the caves where the Lao leaders lived for 9 years during the American bombings.
