Pushkar is truely a magical sight. The holy lake is beautiful and seems very exotic surrounded by the white washed
temples and hotels. We were expecting a small town and looking forward to a little escape. What we found was
a town that is mostly a shopping mall that has more Israelis then Indians.
There was a lot that we liked about Pushkar....Muesli and fresh fruit juice at Sonu's juice stand....cheap and good food including hummus and other Israeli dishes. We also really enjoyed the hike up to the mountain top temples and the wonderful desert view. We stayed at Moon Cafe Guesthouse, which has a garden and a very relaxed feel. What we didn't like was the constant yells from the shop keepers as we walked by...."You Indian Ma'am?"...."Where you from?" We were used to hearing this constant banter while in markets in other cities, but with Pushkar there is nothing by a huge tourist market. We quickly got sick of walking past all the shops and tried to spend our time around the lake where it was more peaceful. After a few days we were both ready to leave. |
